These protein muffins are gluten free and totally paleo. Yes, paleo—because Equip Prime Protein is made with beef protein, not whey, making it dairy free!
In the interests of transparency, Equip Foods sent me a bag of protein powder to experiment with. However, all opinions are my own—I seriously freaking love Prime Protein! Also, this post contains affiliate links. If you purchase something through my links, I get a small kickback at no additional cost to you. It helps me keep this blog runnin’!
I recently fell head over heels for Equip Prime Protein. (Spoilers: get 20% off at checkout with code DOYOUEVENPALEO)
I decided to give it a try after the last of my old brand of protein ran out. Primary reason? I wanted to give non-dairy protein a try.
The story behind why is kind of long and I intend to write a post about it, but just to shorten things up: I want to cut out pretty much all dairy (I have to say “pretty much” because I still occasionally have cheese when I eat out) and I realized I was still drinking whey almost every day. That’s gotta go.
So I bought both the Vanilla and Chocolate flavors of Equip Prime Protein. I’d heard pretty good things from others. Couldn’t hurt to try it myself, right?
Holy balls. It was love after first sip. I wish I would have tried this stuff a looooong time ago.
Suffice to say, I instantly became a superfan and started telling everyone at the gym to smell my protein. Cause the chocolate protein smells like brownies. For real. It tastes like brownies, too. For real!
Of course, I immediately decided to bake with the stuff. A few test runs later, and I had the most unbelievably luscious double chocolate protein muffins. Originally, I baked them to bring to the gym for one of the CrossFit Games Open workouts.
I selfishly kept about 6 at home.
I’m kinda glad I did, though, because those things disappeared FAST.
These double chocolate protein muffins are almost too good to believe. They’re packed with chocolate, totally sugar free, and 110% percent awesome.
Heck, you could leave out the Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips and they’d still be unreal.
When I have a batch of these protein muffins on hand, I grab one in the morning as I head to the gym… And I have to remind myself that these muffins have protein, because it tastes like dessert. Frankly, these could be called protein cupcakes. They’re that damn good.
But first, get yourself a bag of Chocolate Equip Prime Protein and make these muffins!

- 2 scoops chocolate Equip Prime Protein
- 2 tablespoons cacao powder
- 3/4 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup sunflower seed butter
- 3 bananas
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips, optional
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line muffin tin with liners
- In medium bowl, combine coconut flour, protein powder, cacao powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add sunflower seed butter, bananas, eggs, coconut oil, and vanilla to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and fully mix.
- Add chocolate chips and stir until just combined
- Drop batter into muffin liners and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
I suggest oiling your muffin tin or liners. These tend to stick – likely that’s related to all the gelatin/collagen in the Prime Protein!
