Easy Caramel “Peanut Butter” Dip (Paleo, Nut Free)

Paleo Caramel Peanut Butter Dip couples seamlessly with crisp sliced apples or fresh celery.

Despite what the title suggests, this apple dip is nut free. That’s thanks to sunflower seed butter, although you could use peanut butter if you’re down with that.

Considering the popularity of my Simple Sunbutter Fruit Dip recipe, I’ve found myself thinking about ways I can put a spin on the basics.

I eat a LOT of apples during the fall and winter seasons. Somehow, every year, I seem to forget the sweet satisfaction of a crisp apple. And then I go hog wild making up for all the apples I didn’t eat in the warmer months.

And while apples are amazing on their own, every so often I want to pair it with something equally fantastic. That’s where peanut butter dip comes in.

Sunflower seed butter is my favorite substitute for peanut butter. With a side by side taste test, you’d be able to tell the difference. But if you’re allergic to nuts or otherwise avoid them, sunflower seed butter really does echo the flavor of PB!

I’ve taken advantage of the similar earthy, nutty flavor of sunflower seed butter in many recipes in the past. “Peanut Butter” Fudge, Peanut Butter Chocolate Avocado Pudding Pie, 3-Ingredient “Peanut Butter” Cookies.

So if you’ve never tried subbing out peanut butter and using sunflower seed butter instead, give it a try! But you can always use peanut butter if that’s what your heart tells you. Sometimes, you just need that PB. I get it.

Then we get to the caramel. It’s pretty well known on the internet now that blended dates make a pretty great caramel alternative, with no added sugar involved. Dates naturally taste a bit like honey and brown sugar, leading to a creamy sweet syrup when they’re blended and watered down.

After the sunflower seed butter and dates, you need only a couple more ingredients to round out this recipe!
